Nature: Proposed scheme by Butler for new gas works with offices and manager's house. Initial difficulties in finding a site, nearly led to the dissolution of the Monaghan Gas Company, however fortunes changed when a site was finally agreed upon and in 'a very handsome act', Butler 'gave up all claims upon the company for the professional services he had renderend them, including a pretty considerable item for travelling expenses, plans, sketches, specifications, &c.'
