Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

English architect, for whom see Directory of British Architects 1834-1914 (RIBA 2001), I, 336. Richard Herbert Carpenter was the son of RICHARD CROMWELL CARPENTER RICHARD CROMWELL CARPENTER . In 1863 he was taken into partnership by his father's former assistant WILLIAM SLATER  WILLIAM SLATER to form the firm of SLATER & CARPENTER SLATER & CARPENTER . After Slater's death Carpenter took BENJAMIN INGELOW  BENJAMIN INGELOW into partnership and worked with him on the restoration of St Patrick's Church of Ireland Cathedral, Armagh, in 1886-90.

Nature: Partial restoration by RHC & Benjamin Ingelow comprising new floor, new heating system, restoration of choir and transept roofs, new W porch. Choir fittings (bishop's throne and canopy and carved choir stalls) carried out by Bowdler & Co., Shrewsbury.
