Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Engineer, of Dublin. Cornelius Buckley can probably be identified as the Cornelius Buckley who is recorded in the 1911 census as the twelve-year-old eldest son of John Buckley, keeper of the art and industrial collections at the National Museum of Ireland.   He was educated at the Catholic University School, University College Dublin, and the Royal College of Science. He received the BE degree in 1922. From 1925 until 1928 he was on the staff of the Shannon hydroelectric scheme; he subsequently went to Mombasa as assistant engineer to the Public Works Department. He returned to Ireland in 1931 and became temporary assistant engineer to Dublin County Council. In 1935 he joined the staff of the Dublin Port and Docks Board and was promoted to the position of permanent assistant engineer in 1936, principal assistant engineer in 1945 and chief engineer in 1954. He retired in 1965.(2)
