Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect, of Newkmarket, Suffolk, active from the 1870s, for whom see Directory of British Architects 1834-1914 (RIBA 2001),, II, 128..  William Charles Manning, who worked as architect and surveyor to the Jockey Club in Newmarket, designed the Phoenix Park racecourse in Dublin in 1901.(1)

Nature: New racecourse.  Contractor: George Langley, Ringsend Road. 'The work of laying out the grounds has been entrusted to Mr R.[sic] Smith of Newry, who was so successful in his landscape gardening in connection with the Glasgow Exhibition last year.'  First races held at end of Horse Show Week, 29 Aug 1902.
