Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

English engineer and designer of suspension bridges, for whom see biography in Wikipedia.  Several bridges were built to his patented design in Ulster during the 1840s; all were footbridges apart from one at Ballievy near Banbridge, Co. Down, which was destroyed in 1988 when a lorry which exceeded the 2-ton weight limit tried to cross it.(1)

Date: 1844;1845
Nature: 2 suspension bridges built to JD's patented design by the Armagh Foundry; a footbridge is at Glenarb (1844), and a wider bridge (1845) elsewhere on the Caledon estate.

Building: CO. DERRY, MOYOLA PARK, BRIDGES
Date: 1846;1847
Nature: 2 suspension footbridges built to JD's patent design, 1846 and 1847. Earlier bridge was swept away in 1929.
