Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Engineer.  Charles Francis Ferdinando Vignoles, eldest of the five sons of CHARLES BLACKER VIGNOLES CHARLES BLACKER VIGNOLES , was born on 17 August 1819 and christened at St Martin's in the Fields, London, a year later.(1)   Like his younger brothers Hutton and Henry he became an engineer and by 1841 was working for the Shannon Commission as resident engineer for the construction of new piers at Kilrush and Cahercon, Co. Clare.(2)   In 1843 he was joined for a time by his brother Henry.(3)   His career was cut short by  the onset of  mental problems, although he lived to an advanced age, dying in England in 1908.(4)
