Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Amateur wood or stone carver.   Adelaide Jephson, youngest daughter of Sir Philip Crampton, Bt., was born circa 1819 and married Henry Prittie Jephson in 1840.  The Irish Architectural Archive holds a part elevation drawn by 'W.F.B.' of a chimneypiece which is inscribed: 'Chimney Piece at Lough Bray/1902', with a note that 'This Chimneypiece was carved by Adelaide Jephson (née Crampton)'.(1)  Lough Bray Cottage, which was built in for Adelaide Jephson's father circa 1830, burnt out in 1868 and was rebuilt.  The chimneypiece may date from the rebuilding.   It is not clear from the drawing whether it is of wood or stone.  Adelaide Jephson died in 1892.
