Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Engineer, of Dundalk, Co. Louth.  Peter Cahill, CE, was resident engineer to the Dundalk Borough Harbour Commissioners from 1868 until 1886 or later.  He was also architect to the Dundalk Board of Guardians, a post from which he resigned in 1891, to be succeeded by JAMES GASKIN. JAMES GASKIN. (1) He is presumably the 'Mr Cahill, CE', who made plans for labourers' cottages for the Dundalk and Ardee Unions in 1890,(2) and possibly also the Mr Cahill who from 1901 until 1908 executed various work for the Dundalk and Ardee Unions and Rural District Councils.(3)   He had died by the time of the 1911 census, but his widow, Julia (née Prescott), who came from Dublin, was probably still living.(4)  He was the father of PETER WILLIAM CAHILL  PETER WILLIAM CAHILL and the brother of James P. Cahill, who practised as an architect and engineer in Lima, Peru, for several years, 'amassing consiterable wealth'.(5)

Address:  Quay Street, Dundalk, 1886.(3)
