Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect, of London, for whom see Howard Colvin, A Biographical dictionary of British architects 1600-1840 (4th edn., 2008).   James, 20th Earl of Kildare, consulted Isaac Ware during the 1750s, probably through the intermediacy of Henry Fox, former surveyor general of works and, from 1757 to 1765, paymaster-general, who was married to the countess's sister Georgina.  For the earl Ware designed the bridge at Carton, published in his Complete Body of Architecture (1756), Pls. 110-11, and executed in a slightly less embellished form after his death, and decorative schemes for a number of the interiors at Leinster House in Dublin circa 1759.   Unsigned and undated drawings for the latter, now in the Irish Architectural Archive (Guinness drawings collection, acc. 96/68) have been attributed to Ware by David Griffin;(1)  some of them are annotated with comments made by 'Mr Fox'.
