Architectural draughtsman in the architectural branch of the Office of Public Works, Dublin, active from the 1877s until 1898 or later. Wheeler spent eight years an assistant to THOMAS NEWENHAM DEANE and three and a half years as an assistant to JAMES RAWSON CARROLL , before entering the employment of the Office of Public Works in about 1886. In 1897 Deane proposed him for membership of the RIAI, seconded by Carroll and JOHN HOWARD PENTLAND , but he was deemed to be unqualified.
