Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Contractor, with THOMAS COWAN THOMAS COWAN , for the rebuilding of the barracks at Castlebar, Co. Mayo, from 1753 until 1760 or later, and for the repair of the foot barracks at Belleek, circa 1760. Their sureties for the latter are described as 'George Shea of Ashbrooke, and Martin Shea of Usshers-Quay'.(1) The account book of THOMAS EYRE  THOMAS EYRE records payments to Cowan ('Coain') and Hammond for work on the barracks at Castlebar, Belleek, Ballinrobe and Foxford in September 1753.(2)
