Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect, of Belfast. Edward Braddell, a son of Joseph Braddell, gunmaker of Castle Place, Belfast, trained as an architect with LANYON LYNN & LANYON  LANYON LYNN & LANYON and was chief assistant to JOHN LANYON ' JOHN LANYON ' for many years'. He was a member of the Belfast Architectural Association in 1873,(1) and in 1876 won the second of the Vere Foster Prizes awarded by the Association.(2) In about 1890 he retired to Bedford, where he died at his home, Parkside, St Andrew's Road, in 1913.

Building: CO. ANTRIM, BELFAST, HIGH STREET, ST GEORGE'S CHURCH (CI, UPPER FALLS PARISH)
Date: 1882
Nature: Extensive improvements in progress. ‘The alterations have been rendered necessary as much by the change of service which recently took place as by the desire of the vestry to increase the accommodation of the church.’ Organ to be moved from rear of gallery to recess on N side of chancel, placed 10 ft. up, with vestry room to be fitted up beneath. ‘Some fifty years ago an addition to the length of the church was made in the rear, and the present alteration will make the building extend 30
feet beyond the site of the original east window.’ New chancel opened on 2nd Sundain Advent. Reredos mosaics by Mssrs. Simpson and Sons, London. Reredos presented y architect.
