Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect, of Wexford and Newcastle, Maine, USA. Nicholas Codd, son of Thomas Codd, of Dublin, was born in Wexford in 1754.(1) He emigrated to the United States in 1796(2) and was working as a 'housewright' in Boston in 1798. Soon afterwards - probably at the instigation of two fellow-natives of Co. Wexford, James Kavanagh and Matthew Cottrill - he moved to Newcastle, Maine, where he designed St Patrick's Catholic church (1807-8)(3) and other buildings. He died in 1824.(4)
