Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Belfast Corporation housing architect, c.1951-1961. Joseph William Adamson was born circa 1905. Before coming to Belfast, he worked in England, first as assistant architect at Hanley, Staffordshire, and then as the deputy borough architect at Huddersfield. He was appointed deputy city architect of Belfast in 1948(1) and held the position until his death on 8 January 1961 at the age of fifty-six. The cause of death was a haemhorrage which may have been caused by a fall in the slippery corridor of the corporation's Academy Street offices.(2)

RIBA: elected associate, 1946.
Town Planning Institute: associate member.

Address: Wandsworth Road, Belfast, at time of death.
