Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

County surveyor for Cos. Longford, 1874-1883, and Laois, 1883-1908. Henry Vincent White was born in Wexford on 13 February 1848 and studied engineering at Trinity College, Dublin, obtaining the Licentiate in Civil Engineering in 1869.(1) He then went to England where he was employed as assistant resident engineer by the corporation of Kingston-on-Thames.(2) In August 1874 he succeeded SAMUEL ALEXANDER KIRKBY SAMUEL ALEXANDER KIRKBY as county surveyor for Co. Longford, remaining in the post until September 1883 , when he was transferred to Co. Laois (Queen's ).(4) He resigned in 1908(5) and retired to Dublin. According to the street directories, he was living at St Helen's, Ailesbury Park, in 1933 and died there the following year, on 15 November 1934. His pupils and assistants included WILLIAM FITZ-GERALD BARRY  WILLIAM FITZ-GERALD BARRY and ROBERT HENRY KING. ROBERT HENRY KING.
