Assistant county surveyor for Co. Cavan from 1900 or earlier until 1933. According to the 1911 census, Richard Nicholls Wellwood was born in Co. Leitrim in 1875 or 1876. In February 1911 Cavan Urban District Council appointed him architect for an artisans' dwellings scheme and in November he was appointed town surveyor for Cavan Town at a salary of £40 per annum, following the resignation of THOMAS L. O'BRIEN. THOMAS L. O'BRIEN. He held this post likewise until 1933. At the time of the 1911 census, he had been married for three years to his wife, Hariet Emily, and had a son, Herbert Edwin.
