Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Engineer. Francis Walker, the eldest son of John Walker, of Labarn, Co. Kerry, and his wife, Charlotte, daughter of Thomas Barry, of Dingle, was born on 31 January 1838. After attending Queen's College, Cork, and serving a pupilage with WILLIAM BARRINGTON [2] WILLIAM BARRINGTON [2] , he entered the Bombay Public Works Department. The rest of his career was spent in India. He had been promoted to the rank of chief engineer of the second class by the time he retired in January 1893. He retired to Co. Kerry, where he served as a magistrate, and died at Cheltenham on 14 Sepember 1904. He had married Kate, daughter of Edward Spring of Ardrath, in 1869.
