Assistant county surveyor for Co. Offaly from 1900 or earlier until 1916. Horace Waters, fourth son of Thomas Waters of Kilpatrick, Monasterevin, Co. Kildare, and his wife Harriet, née Exshaw, was born in 1861. After attending Alston College, Cheshire, he took an engineering degree at Queen's College, Galway, also gaining a gold medal. He was appointed assistant county surveyor for Co. Offaly in succession to JAMES H. BARR JAMES H. BARR probably circa 1893, when he moved to Edenderry. In 1899 he became engineer to Edenderry No. 1, 2 & 3 Rural District Councils. He was also an engineer on the Boyne Drainage Board. In 1900 he applied unsuccessfully for the county surveyorship of Co. Offaly, left vacant by the death of RICHARD BARNSLEY SANDERS. RICHARD BARNSLEY SANDERS. He died suddenly at home in July 1916, having suffered from heart problems two months previously, and was buried in Edenderry on 12 July He been married to his wife, Kate, for about twenty-three years and had six children. Horses appear to have been his principal leisure interest. He was a member of the Kildare Hunt, a racing judge and in 1909 had been manager of the Cork Park race course.
