Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect who, according to the Ordnance Survey memoirs, superintended the building of the spire of the church of the parish of Camus-Juxta-Bann at Macosquin, Co. Derry, which was blown down in a storm some time probably in the 1780s or 1790s . The octagonal spire was 60 feet high, 'composed of oak wood and bound in various parts with iron belts, bolts and clasps'. The same source states that 'the timber was sold by auction and the proceeds of the sale applied to other improvements of the church by the Revd Garner[sic] Young, then rector of Macosquin'. Gardiner Young (1745c-1822) was rector of the parish from 1787 to 1797.(2)
