Walter Thomas Stainer, eldest son of Cornelius Joseph Stainer, 'carpet planner', of Liverpool and his wife, Sarah, was born in Liverpool in 1869.(1) He came to Ireland in 1891 to work as an assistant in the Royal Engineers Department in the Dublin War Office. He remained in the department until 1905 and then spent a year as an assistant to JAMES PURCELL WRENN . He returned to England in 1907.
AAI: elected member, 1891; winner of Vice-President's Prize for a model for a lych gate in stone and wood, 1905;(2) ceased membership, 1909.
