English architect of Hertford, for whom see Howard Colvin, A Biographical dictionary of British architects 1600-1840 (4th edn., 2008), 958-960, and Directory of British Architects 1834-1914 (RIBA 2001), II, 654. In Ireland Smith acted for Lord Ranfurly, who had estates in Co. Tyrone and Co. Fermanagh, and for Sir Patrick Bellew, whose estates were in Co. Louth and Co. Meath.
