Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

American architect, of New York, for whom see Macmillan Dictionary of Architects I, 123-4. Henry Bacon, best known for his Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC (1911-22), was probably responsible for the design of the obelisk of the Parnell monument in O'Connell Street Upper, Dublin, completed in 1911. The sculptor was AUGUSTUS SAINT-GAUDENS. AUGUSTUS SAINT-GAUDENS. (1)

Nature: Obelisk probably designed by HB, and erected under supervision of G.P. Sheridan. For Parnell Monument Committee of Dublin. Sculpture by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. FS laid 8 Oct 1899. Contractor: W. Connolly. Stone from quarried by Galway Marble Works from Shantilla quarry. Unveiled 2 Jul 1911.
