Borough Surveyor of Wexford from 1879. Ryan was a pupil of JAMES BARRY FARRELL & JAMES BARRY FARRELL & amp; SON; during his pupilage he was employed on the construction of Rosslare harbour and the railway leading to it. He then spent two years with COTTON & COTTON & amp; FLEMING  FLEMING of Dublin(1) before setting up in independent practice in Wexford. He was elected Borough Surveyor for Wexford on 9 July 1879,(2) in succession to NICHOLAS MCDONNELL NICHOLAS MCDONNELL . In addition to being borough surveyor, he was inspector of waterworks and engineer to the Wexford Harbour Board. He was also surveyor to the Irish Civil Service Building Society. He died in 1894. He was succeeded as borough surveyor by D.E. MCCARTHY  MCCARTHY and as harbour engineer by EDWARD S. O'BRIEN.  EDWARD S. O'BRIEN.
