Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Scottish engineer, active in Ireland from 1816 to 1832.   John Aird worked with JOHN RENNIE [1]  JOHN RENNIE [1] and JOHN RENNIE [2]  JOHN RENNIE [2] from 1794 until the end of his life.  From 1809 to 1816 he was resident engineer for the completion of Howth harbour to the designs of John Rennie the elder and JOSEPH HUDDART JOSEPH HUDDART ,(1) and from 1816 he was John Rennie the elder's resident engineer for the new harbour at Kingstown (Dun Laoighaire).  He continued in the latter post when John Rennie the younger succeeded his father as chief engineer, remaining until his death at Kingstown in 1832.  He was also consulted about the proposed harbours at Balbriggan (1818) and Wexford (1833).
