Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Civil engineer, of Ennis and Clarecastle, Co. Clare. Thomas Henry Pilkington, who was born in Co. Kildare in 1859 or 1860, served a three-year apprenticeship with John Lopdell, MICEI, of Ennis, Co. Clare, from May 1877. After completing his apprenticeship in 1880, he practised privately.(1) He had been appointed an assistant county surveyor for Co. Clare by 1900(2) and was still in the post in 1915.(3) According to the 1911 census, he also farmed. He died on 23 December 1916. The census also records that he married his wife, Florence, circa 1893 and had four children.
