Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect and measurer, of Dublin. George Phayre, who appears to have been a son or younger brother of JOHN PHAYRE JOHN PHAYRE , was admitted to the Royal Dublin Society's School of Drawing in Architecture on 4 November 1830 and again on 24 February 1831.(1) He exhibited four designs at the Royal Hibernian Academy: a 'Design for a Double Gate Entrance, with Lodges attached' in 1837 (No. 223); a design for the Presbyterian Church on Ormond Quay in 1845 (Nos. 425, 426); a competition design for Kingsbridge station and a design for a savings bank in 1846 (Nos. 428 ,429). JOHN SWAN SLOANE  JOHN SWAN SLOANE records that Phayre measured the extras for Rockabill Lighthouse, which was completed in 1860.(2) Phayre disappears from the directories after 1862. A person of this name married Harriet Henrietta Hall in Dublin on 25 December 1846.(3)
