Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Borough surveyor for Waterford from 1948 until 1960 or later.(1) After graduating from Trinity College, Dublin, in 1929,(2) Joseph Carroll spent about ten years as assistant engineer to Dun Laoghaire Corporation. In 1939 he was appointed assistant engineer in the Highways and Parks Department of Dublin Corporation, 'and during his three years in that post won golden opinions in dealing with the general public'. He was appointed Borough Surveyor of Galway in 1942 and of Waterford - in succession to DAVID SHEEDY -  DAVID SHEEDY - in 1948.
