IRWIN, THOMAS STAPLES

Resident engineer on the Portadown, Dungannon & Omagh Railway from 1857 to 1859.(1) The Belfast Weekly News of 2 May 1857 records the birth of his daughter on 21 april at Tullydonnell, near Dungannon.

(1) Jones files, citing Thom's Directories; he also cites a reference to Irwin in IB 41, 15 Sep 1899, 131, in connection with the proposed reconstruction of the derelict Parsonstown & Portumna Railway, but his transcript does not make it clear whether Irwin was connected with the original railway, built in 1863-68, or the proposed reconstruction.
