County engineer for Cos. Donegal, 1948-1958, and Offaly (1958-69). Daniel Barry, who was born in Cork on 8 December 1904, obtained the BE degree of the National University of Ireland in 1930. After working as assistant county surveyor with Cork County Council, he spent three years as assistant engineer with Kilkenny County Council. In 1934 he was appointed an Inspector with the Irish Land Commission in Co. Kerry. From 1935 till 1948 he was chief assistant county engineer for Co. Kilkenny and was also placed in charge of fire fighting services in Kilkenny city and county. He was appointed County Engineer for Co. Donegal in 1948 and for Co. Offaly in October 1958. He retired in 1969 and died in 1983.
