He succeeded his father as architect to the Cork Lunatic Asylum. By 1902 he had become engineer to the Cork & Muskerry Light Railway.(7) He was consulting engineer to Cork Rural District Council from 1905 or earlier(8) and to Youghal Urban District Council by 1910.(9) Like other members of his family, Hill had a keen interest in antiquities and was an active member of the Cork Archaeological and Historial Society. According to the obituary in the Irish Builder, he retired from practice 'some time' before his death, which occurred on 31 October 1941.(10) He was married to Stella ? (d..1949), by whom he had several children, none of whom followed him into the business, which was carried on by his partner John Wilkinson.(10)
