Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architectural partnership, of Birmingham, England, formed in 1898 between William Henman (1846-1917) and Thomas Cooper (b.1847), for whom see Directory of British Architects 1834-1914 (RIBA 2001), I, 433, 891-2. Henman was a specialist in hospital construction and design.(2) In Ireland Henman & Cooper designed the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, begun in 1901.(3) There was some criticism of the 'Plenum' ventilation system which was used and the lack of windows in the wards.(4)

Builder: McLaughlin & Harvey. Clerk of Works: G.S. Flower. Plenum Ventilation system subject of libel dispute with George Henry Bibby.
