Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect and builder, of Prosperous, Co. Kildare. Hayes was one of the 'suffering loyalists' who claimed for damages sustained in the rebellion of 1798.(1) The will of Michael Hayes, builder, of Prosperous, was proved in the Prerogative Court in 1804.(2)

[JB of DIB says Hayes was originally from Co. Tipperary. Retained by Robert Brooke for new settlement of Prosperous, Co. Kildare, c.1782-c.1786. Worked for Grand Canal Co. on Lowton Lock at Shannon Harbour. Married Eleanor and had four sons; one of these, Denis, carried on the business.]
