Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Builder and architect, active in the dioceses of Cashel and Emly in the late 1780s and early 1790s. He is mentioned several times in the Normanton Papers in theHampshire Record Office.(1)  He married Eleanor Fogarty in 1791(2) and sent four sons, all born in Co. Tipperary between 1794 and 1811, to Trinity College, Dublin.(3) He later spelt his name as Luby, and it seems likely that he was closely related to William Luby, 'architectus', whose son William, also born in Co. Tipperary circa 1797, was admitted to Trinity in 1816.(4)   There may also be a connection with the Looby family of Tralee (see - LOOBY).
