Canon Murphy was asked to approach Lady Ardilaun to enquire her approval for the building on her land – the site of the Old Market House in the town square. An engineer, Mr. A.W. Barnard was in charge of the project and the plans were then given to Lady Ardilaun.A request was made to the Local Board of Guardians for a loan of £1,000 towards the project.
