HAMILTON, JAMES [2]#
- Born: - Died: 1894
Architect, of Glasgow, for whom see Directory of British Architects 1834-1914 (RIBA 2001), I, 826, and Dictionary of Scottish Architects (www.scottish architects.org). In 1858 James Hamilton won the competition for designing the Ulster Bank in Belfast, completed in 1860 under the supervision of JAMES MOORE . In Ireland he also designed the Ulster Bank branches in Trim (1862) and Sligo (1863), and, in collaboration with FRANCIS STIRRAT , shops in the High Street in Belfast (1866), and a new parsonage at Craigavad, Co. Down (1866). Some of the references to him in the Irish Builder in 1862 and 1863 describe him as 'of Glasgow and Belfast', which suggests that he may have opened a Belfast office for a time.
