Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Amateur. Helena Sarah Domvile, the second wife of Sir Compton Domville, first baronet of Templeogue and Santry, was a daughter of Frederick Trench of Heywood, Co. Laois.(1)  Some time before her marriage in 1815 she produced a voloume of etchings of cottages and gate houses on the Heywood estate.(2)  Later, apparently circa1840, her Eighteen designs for glebe houses and rural cottages, with ground plans was published anonymously in London by John Mitchell and John Weale.(3) The name Domvile, though largely erased, can just be seen on some of the plates. Some of these designs appear to have been realised, probably with the professional assistance of JOSEPH WELLAND JOSEPH WELLAND , in the row of picturesque cottages - now demolished -  which was built on her husband's estate at Santry in the late 1830s.  (4)  She died on 10 February 1859.
