Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Civil engineer, of Buncrana, Co. Donegal. William John Bernard Doherty appears to have been born in Pendleton, Oregon, on 20 August 1907 to Irish parents, John and Katie Doherty, who both came from Carndonagh, Co. Donegal, and later returned there.(1) Having obtained both the BE and BSc degrees, he was town surveyor for Buncrana from 1942 or earlier until 1956 or later and was an assistant county surveyor for Co. Donegal during the same period.(2) He died in Buncrana in October 1994.(3) During the 1930s and 1940s some confusion with WILLIAM JAMES DOHERTY  WILLIAM JAMES DOHERTY of Derry is possible.
