Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect to the Belfast Corporation Education Committee from 1923 or 1924 until 1926. Davies, who was born in 1888 and was working in Bradford in 1914, came to Ireland from the Essex County Architect's Department in 1924 to take up the post of architect to the Belfast Education Committee.(1) The position, which appears to have been initially offered to Adam Sampson, chief architect Education Committee of Dunbartonshire County Council,(2)  was a new one, created as a result of the 1923 Education Act, which gave the Corporation responsibility for elementary education in the city. Davies resigned early in 1926 on being appointed architect to Sheffield Corporation.(3) The His place was taken by REGINALD SHARMAN WILSHERE REGINALD SHARMAN WILSHERE , who had also been working in the Essex County Architect's Department.
