Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Sculptor, of London, for whom see Rupert Gunnis, Dictionary of British Sculptors 1660-1851 (revised edition, [1968]), 276-279.   For Ireland Nollekens designed the monument  to Henry and Peter Leslie in Hillsborough Church of Ireland church, Co. Down (1774).  Potterton suggests  that the bust of Wills Hill, first Marquess of Downshire, in the same church may also be by him and points to Nollekens  - who is known to have worked for the Welbore Ellis family in England - as the possible author of the memorial to Dr Welbore Ellis which was formerly in Christ Church cathedral, Dublin,   Two busts from this memorial survive in the cathedral crypt.(1)

See WORKS, for Irish work only.
