Architect, of Portadown, Co. Armagh. James Walby was a son of James Walby, superintending engineer of the postal service in Dublin and later in Belfast. He was born in Dublin circa 1870 and educated at the High School before becoming a pupil of WILLIAM BATT [2] WILLIAM BATT [2] in Belfast. According to his obituary he then worked in Dundalk and Galway. He was employed by the Board of Public Works as a temporary clerk of works to supervise the erection of Lisburn Post Office in 1892 and Portadown Post Office in 1895-96. It may have been at this time that that he decided to settle in Portadown, where he practised as an architect until at least 1915. He died in a Lisburn nursing home after a long illness in the summer of 1921.
Address: Tartaraghan, Co. Armagh, 1901.
