Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Civil engineer and quantity surveyor, of Belfast, active from the 1880s or earlier. According to the 1911 census, William Henry Stephens was born in Co. Kilkenny in 1844 or 1845. He practised as a quantity surveyor in Belfast, taking his eldest son Samuel Stephens (b. 1870/71) into partnership in the early 1900s, joined later by another son, John Kyle Stephens (b. 1880/81). The firm of W.H. Stephens & Sons continued in business until the 1930s or later. Its papers are now in the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (D 1898).
