Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect, who began the alterations at Slane Castle, Co. Meath, probably circa 1783. He was replaced by JAMES WYATT  JAMES WYATT in 1785. Possibly Robert Robinson (1734-1794), the Scottish landscape gardener and architect, for whom see Howard Colvin, A Biographical dictionary of British architects 1600-1840 (3rd edn., 1995), 829. Robert Robinson described himself 'late Draughtsman and executor of the Designs' of LANCELOT 'CAPABILITY' BROWN LANCELOT 'CAPABILITY' BROWN ; he could have been employed at Slane in this capacity, as Brown, who died in 1783, had earlier prepared a plan for the house.(1) See also ROBERT ROBINSON [1]. ROBERT ROBINSON [1].
