Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect, of Dublin, active from 1906 or earlier until 1952 or later.   According to the Irish census of 1911, John O'Hare was born in Newry, Co. Down, in 1878 or 1879. He may be the person of the same name who was chosen in 1904 by Newry No. 1 Rural District Council to act as architect for its labourers' cottage scheme.(1) He was working from an office in Dublin by 1908.(2) In 1920 he was appointed architect for the labourers' housing scheme at Dunshaughlin, Co. Dublin.(3) Two works - four new shops and dwellings in Marrowbone Lane, 1924, and alterations to the Catholic Commercial Club, 1934 - are attributed by the Irish Builder to 'O'Hare & Dillon'.(4) . O'Hare's last work to be recorded in the Irish Builder dates from 1952.(5)

O'Hare married Henrietta Devereux, a widow with a son, circa 1905 and was the father of two daughters, born in 1906 and 1907,(6) and a son, born in 1908.(7).
