Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Measurer, architect and timber merchant, of Dublin. John Behan (or Beahan) was appointed measurer for the Board of Works in 1801 and sworn in the following January.(1) He resigned when he was appointed third architect to the Barrack Department in 1807,(2) though he is still referred to as measurer of works in the Board of Works minutes in 1809.(3) His name last appears as one of Barrack Department's architects in Watsons's Almanack for 1817.(4) In Wilson's Dublin Directory he is also described as a timber merchant from 1804 until 1816.
