John Newell, who was born circa 1890 was town surveyor for Dungannon from 1922 until 1944, when he was succeeded by JAMES P. RUSH JAMES P. RUSH ,(1) and an assistant county surveyor for Co. Tyrone from 1922(2) or earlier until 1949(3) or later. He was appointed an additional architect by Dungannon Regional Education Committee in 1931.(4) He died suddenly at his home in Howard Terrace, Dungannon, in 1962 at the age of seventy-two.

John Newell can probably be identified with the John Newell who appears in the 1911 census as a son of Joseph Newell, provision merchant, of Dungannon, and a younger brother of CHARLES NEWELL.& CHARLES NEWELL.& #160; The John Newell of the census was born in 1889 or 1890, but is described as 'Clerk'.
