Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

Architect, of Dublin. Rupert Jones was working for the Office of Public Works in Tipperary when he became a member of the AAI in 1914. He was transferred to Dublin in 1920 or 1921. He remained with the Office of Public works until 1932, when he set up in independent practice at D'Olier Chambers, D'Olier Street, Dublin. In about 1934 he became architect to the Mount Merrion Park 'garden city' development.(1) In 1935 he entered into a partnership with JOHN JOSEPH WINTERS  JOHN JOSEPH WINTERS which lasted until April 1937, when he announced in the Irish Builder that he was 'severing his connection with the firm of Messrs. Winters and Jones' but continuing his practice at the Mount Merrion Park estate office.(2)   He may be the Rupert Jones whose death at the age of sixty seven is recorded in the registers of the in the South Dublin district for the third quarter of 1950;(3)  this would correspond with the fact that he disappears from Thom's directories in 1951. Photographs by Jones of the Shannon Scheme were published in the Irish Builder for 2 October 1926.(4)
