Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

English engineer, for biography of whom see TICEI  TICEI 42 (1915-16), 203-4, and Min.Proc.Inst.CE 201 (1915-16), 393-4. After completing his pupilage with Benjamin Baker in 1875, Hurtzig spent over two years in Ireland, for the first year and a half as assistant to T.R. Winder, resident engineer on the Rosslare Harbour and Waterford and Wexford Railway works, then for six months as contractor's agent in charge of the Rosslare Harbour works and finally for three months as assistant to FREDERICK BARRY  FREDERICK BARRY on a section of the Sligo, Leitrim and Northern Counties Railway, which included the Lough Erne Viaduct.(1) He returned to England in November 1877 and spent the rest of his career in Hull and London.
