Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

English architect, for biography and works of whom see Howard Colvin, A Biographical dictionary of British architects 1600-1840 (4th edn, 2008), 527-530. In Ireland Holland designed a gateway at the north-east end of Westport, Co. Mayo, for the Marquess of Sligo, built in 1808,(1) and he also produced plans for Castlegar, Co. Galway, for Ross Mahon, which were not carried out and not paid for until after his death.(2)

Building: CO. WICKLOW, ROSSANA (OR ROSSANAGH)
Date: 1801
Nature: 'Mr Henry Tighe, this summer, has built two cottages for his labourers, on a plan given by Mr Holland and published in the volume of communications to the Board of Agriculture.   These cottages cost £79 each and are very complete and comfortable.'

Date: 1808
Nature: Gateway at NE end of town (demolished 1958ca), for 1st Marquess of Sligo. (D. Griffin says identical to main gate at Woburn Abbey, Bedfordshire)
