GILCRIEST, WILLIAM FAWCETT
- Born: 1863c Died: 1907/8
Civil engineer and architect, of Sligo. William Fawcett Gilcriest, a son of Thomas Fawcett Gilcriest by his wife Mary, née Chittick, and elder brother of JOHN FAWCETT GILCRIEST , was born circa 1863. From 1885 until 1887 he served a two-year pupilage under BERKELEY DEANE WISE , engineer to the Belfast & Co. Down Railway Co., in Belfast, while also attending lectures on geometry, chemistry and other subjects at Queen's College, Belfast. He remained with Wise for a time after completing his pupilage and then set up in private practice in Sligo. He died in 1907 or in the early months of 1908.(2) He appears in the 1901 census as having a wife, Agnes, from Co. Mayo, and a one-year-old daughter, Norah.
