Dictionary of Irish Architects 1720 - 1940

English architect and surveyor, for whom see Howard Colvin, A Biographical dictionary of British architects 1600-1840 (4th edn, 2008). Gibson was employed as surveyor by three City of London companies, the Saddlers', the Drapers' and the Vintners'. It was as surveyor to the Draper's Company, a post which he held from 1797 until 1822 - when he was obliged to resign on account of gout - that he was responsible for the design of most of the buildings erected betweeen 1818 and 1823 in the town of Moneymore, Co. Derry, on the Drapers' estate.
